Treatment

The first steps to achieving your perfect smile

First Visit

1

Initial Consultation: Your initial consultation will give you the opportunity to meet Dr. Kopp and the orthodontic dental assistants. After a complete oral examination, we will determine whether treatment is necessary. If treatment is necessary, we will then establish an overall cost estimate and timeframe.  After a comprehensive explanation, we will take all the time needed to answer any questions you may have and ensure you fully understand your dental situation and potential treatment options. This appointment typically takes about 30 minutes.

2

Should you wish to begin an orthodontic treatment, the 2nd visit consists of a thorough examination to provide us with full orthodontic records. This includes: a cinical examination, intraoral pictures, extraoral pictures, two x-rays and a 3D digital scan of your teeth.
These records are used to analyze and plan your individual orthodontic treatment.
This appointment generally takes about one hour.

3

At your third appointment, we will discuss your personalized treatment plan. During this session you will get a printed copy of all your records and your full written treatment plan will be sent to your referred dentist. The financial side will also be discussed, including: cost, insurance options and payment plans. This appointment typically takes about 30-45 minutes.

Our Treatments

Early treatment – ages 7-10

The Swiss Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child’s first visit to an orthodontist should be at the age of 7. An early treatment focuses on the correction of severe malocclusions, like crossbites or severe space problems. By tackling these issues early on, we can prevent more serious issues from forming down the line and provides the orthodontist with the ability to monitor the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth.

In Switzerland your general dentist or your school dentist typically expresses the need for orthodontic treatment. As I am an official school dentist for the canton of Bern, I can inform you about possible dental issues.

The benefits:

• Correction of harmful habits like thumb sucking
• Reduces the possibility of having to remove permanent teeth
• Straightforward approach to managing crowding and space problems
• Improves social issues and self-esteem

Adolescent – ages 11-16

The early teen years (11-15) are the most common for orthodontic treatment as by now, the permanent teeth have erupted. During this phase, we will use braces or Invisalign® to gradually shift the position of the teeth, creating a healthier alignment and improve your smile.

The use of functional appliances (such as a night time retainer) can also be an option to treat problems pertaining to the position of the upper and lower jaw and teeth.

Adults

More and more adults are seeking orthodontic treatment and can benefit from the growing popularity of discreet treatment options like Invisalign®.

No one is ever too old for orthodontics, and we can deliver a beautiful smile in an efficient, comfortable and discreet way. Beyond the aesthetic benefits, correcting crowded teeth, a malocclusion (for example, a bad bite) or a potential jaw abnormality ,can also help prevent future issues like gum or bone loss, tooth decay or abnormal wear of teeth.
